In January 2020, the bankrupt vulture landed on 418 companies. This means that more than six percent more companies had to open bankruptcy proceedings than in the same month last year. In eastern Switzerland the number of insolvencies rose by 43 percent and in Zurich by 32 percent, while in south-western Switzerland there was an increase of eleven percent. In the Espace Mittelland and in north-western Switzerland, the number of bankruptcies rose by two percent each. The only decreases occurred in Ticino (-17%) and Central Switzerland (-30%). The number of new companies founded in Switzerland as a whole fell by two percent. In Ticino, the number of new registrations fell by 26 percent. In the Espace Mittelland, it fell by 16 percent, followed by Eastern Switzerland (-8%) and South-Western Switzerland (-1%). Northwest Switzerland (+19%) and Central Switzerland (+14%) recorded much more new registrations than in the same month last year. In Zurich there was an increase of one percent.
