Relief in corporate bankruptcies: In the first quarter of 2019, the number of bankruptcies fell by five percent year-on-year. According to Bisnode D&B's analysis, more than 1,262 companies had to file for bankruptcy due to insolvency. In Ticino, the number of insolvent companies rose massively. With 114 cases, the increase was 20 percent. The number of bankruptcies also increased in central and south-western Switzerland, but only by four and three percent respectively. In the other regions there was a decline, most pronounced in northwestern Switzerland (-20%), followed by Espace Mittelland (-18%) and eastern Switzerland (-13%). While bankruptcies decreased, the number of new registrations increased. With 11,598 new companies in the first quarter of 2019, the figure for the previous year was exceeded by five percent. There was a decline in the number of start-ups only in Central Switzerland (-3%), while the number increased in the other major regions.
