Who uses the D-U-N-S® number?

The D&B D-U-N-S® number (Data Universal Numbering System) was introduced in 1962. Since then ist usage increased permanently and rapidly. Nowadays it is considered as a unique identifier for companies across the globe by many organisations / institutions, between others:

  • American National Standards Institute ANSI ASC X12 (since 1989)

  • United Nations Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce and Transport council (UN EDIFACT - since 1991)
